Update On Zipgenius Code Recovery

2 messaggi in questa discussione

As you may have read on our Twitter or Facebook page, ZipGenius last code revision is trapped in a virtual machine that crashed some day ago.

We tried to recover that code in all the way we are aware of, but we didn't succeed and that source code is still there.

We lost a Windows XP Professional SP2 virtual machine that was a clone of the old WinXP physical machine we used to develop ZipGenius until Windows 7 came out: that means that we have - at least - our source code developed up to version 6.3.0. Not bad, luckily. This means that we still have a good codebase which just needs the bugfixes from that version to 6.3.1.2590; luckily again, most of those bugfixes were not in ZipGenius main source code but in modules that we already develop with Delphi 2010 on Windows 7 physical machine.

That's a good starting point.

And now? Now we will remove any bridge with the past. We will get rid of Windows XP and Delphi 2006 and we will offer a revamped ZipGenius. This also means that no bug will be fixed as quickly as we are used to do: you can still submit bugs through the contact form at http://www.zipgenius.it or http://www.zipgenius.com but don't expect to see them fixed in a newer build in a couple of days. We must do this because we are finally moving to develop ZipGenius on a totally different platform that will bring a better software. Just think: ZipGenius will have full Unicode support and this feature is driving us to delete large parts of the old codebase that cannot live in ZipGenius anymore (e.g.: code giving problems/errors/strange behaviours).

ZipGenius will adopt a new user interface, the same one that will debut on saturday in the upcoming Cutter 5 and Cutter 5 itself will be part of the future ZipGenius Suite package.

Anybody said "ShinyUI"? Yes, it's that. The ShinyUI will appear in ZipGenius, too. This means that our beloved program will be able to take benefits from Windows 7 Aero Theme. You will have a program that will get its colors automatically by reading the theme you are using in your Windows 7 setup; if you don't (or you can't) use Aero Theme, ZipGenius (and Cutter 5) will use the default appearance of Windows.

That should be something as the following...

Stay tuned for more news about Cutter 5.
