Thoughts On Zg7 Development

1 messaggio in questa discussione

ZipGenius 7 development is going really really fast thanks to a codebase as good as ZG 6's one.

Let's stop for a while and think to whatever we met across these years.

ZG 6 crossed the life-cycle of two Windows mainstream versions (XP and Vista) and it has entered into the life-cycle of the third one (Windows 7). This can only mean one thing: its codebase is good enough to keep up to date with the every new Windows version. Incredibly, ZG 6 even survived to Windows Vista and jumped directly into Windows 7. Really nice!

But there is a point in life of everything where a big change must happen, in order to keep innovating day by day. We all know that ZipGenius 6 could be stay on the market for a really long time, even trying to survive to Windows 7, but we have a great opportunity to make a better, faster and beautiful new major version of our beloved program. That's why we started developing ZG 7 again: ZG 6 must pass the ball to a younger release. It's time to leave the road open to ZG 7, with its beautiful ShinyUI interface, which is even better than the one you find now in Cutter 5.

Let's say it straight: ShinyUI doesn't functionality to ZG but it just creates a better work environment and your eyes won't conflict with ugly design and colors that you still meet in applications running in Windows 7. It seems that most developers don't think that a functional interface could (and should) be also nice to look at. We can see it in many businness applications: no colors or eye-striking color templates, ugly design, squared elements. You will get a really, really nice program that still have the notorious ZG 6 functionality (and more).

We have a lot of ideas on ZG7: some of them will appear in the first public release, some other will appear later in time, but each will improve the ZipGenius experience day by day.

ZipGenius 7 is - right now - smarter than ZG 6: we got a lot of lessons over these years and we are realizing what we've learned.

Stay tuned!
