Overview

Internet Explorer 7 RC1 includes advancements in security and browsing experience for end users, functionality and compatibility for developers, and manageability for corporate network administrators. With this build, Microsoft has also made enhancements to the fit and finish of the user interface, completed CSS platform changes, added language support, and included an auto-uninstall feature in Setup, which automatically uninstalls prior betas of Internet Explorer 7, making installing the new build even easier. Internet Explorer 7 all'ultimo chilometro

Microsoft ha rilasciato la prima e forse ultima release candidate del nuovo browser: pur non sfoggiando novità visibili all'occhio, secondo MS aumenta performance e affidabilità

Redmond (USA) - A metà dell scorsa settimana Microsoft ha rilasciato la Release Candidate 1 (RC1) di Internet Explorer 7, probabilmente ultima tappa nello sviluppo del nuovo browser. BigM ha confermato l'intenzione di completare IE7 in autunno, in tempo per il lancio delle edizioni business di Windows Vista.

Dal lato estetico e funzionale la RC1 di IE7 non introduce alcuna novità rispetto alla precedente Beta 3, tuttavia Microsoft afferma di aver migliorato aspetti quali performance, stabilità, sicurezza e compatibilità.

"Abbiamo apportato alcuni cambiamenti che, sebbene non visibili agli utenti, incrementano l'agilità e la velocità di IE7", ha affermato Margaret Cobb, group product manager per IE di Microsoft.

In IE7 RC1 è stato inoltre migliorato il supporto allo standard CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), anche se gli sviluppatori ammettono che l'implementazione non è ancora completa: uno degli scogli da superare, secondo quanto riportato nel blog di Markus Mielke, program manager di IE7, è raggiungere il giusto compromesso fra conformità alla specifiche CSS e compatibilità con i siti web preesistenti.

Se il feedback di tester e sviluppatori sarà positivo, quella attuale potrebbe essere la prima e ultima release candidate del nuovo browser.

IE7 RC1 può essere scaricato, per il momento solo in lingua inglese, da questa pagina: i sistemi operativi compatibili sono Windows XP SP2, Windows XP Pro x64, Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows Server 2003 x64 e Windows Server 2003 ia64.

Come riportato alla fine di luglio, IE7 verrà distribuito nella sua forma finale come aggiornamento ad alta priorità: gli utenti delle attuali edizioni di Windows avranno facoltà di scegliere se installarlo o meno, ed eventualmente potranno bloccare permanentemente l'update attraverso un apposito tool. In Windows Vista, IE7 farà invece parte integrante del sistema operativo.

La roadmap del maggior rivale di IE7, Firefox 2.0, è stata modificata proprio di recente: la Beta 2 del browser open source è ora attesa per il 30 agosto, mentre il lancio della release finale è stato fissato per il 24 ottobre.
